Continued roll-out of C-ITS on the high-level road network and in urban areas.
C-Roads Austria 3 continues the implementation of C-ITS services in Austria and aims to make the mobility system safer and more efficient. The project focuses on the implementation and further development of C-ITS along the entire Austrian motorway network. Furthermore, urban C-ITS use cases in Klagenfurt and additional use cases for Graz will be implemented.
To advance the C-ITS rollout, ASFINAG plans to equip about 700 km of motorway along the Austrian TEN-T network with additional roadside units. Furthermore, ASFINAG will implement new use cases. Graz will also implement new use cases along the urban junctions. In addition, Klagenfurt will implement C-ITS for the first time to improve traffic management in busy areas by connecting traffic lights.
C-Roads Austria 3 is a national pilot project and part of the European C-Roads platform, a joint initiative of European member states and road operators. This platform is coordinated by AustriaTech, which also coordinates the implementation of C-Roads Austria 3. By extending C-ITS services to motorways and urban areas, the project aims to reduce negative environmental impacts through the digitalisation of the mobility system.
